Thank you for visiting the website of Di Castle, author of Grandma's Poetry Book, which charts the nostalgic journey from birth to teens as seen through the eyes of a grandmother. It captures the many facets of those fleeting, easily forgotten moments as the grandchildren grow. Touching and funny in turn, the poems resonate with a grandmother’s love for her grandchildren.
The Inspiration was the birth of my first grandchild, the huge, unexpected emotion galvanising my writing after a ‘dry’ spell. My notebooks began to fill with chance remarks and a few lines of verse, later honed and tweaked, entered into competitions and anthologies and even given to family on special occasions. ‘Mother’s Day’ is one example of a poem sent in recognition of my daughter’s first special day.
Should I Wear Floral and other Poems takes a humorous peek at on life, love and leaving during many changes in society over the last twenty-five years, while also celebrating landmark events in Britain. The poems are a reaction to observations, eavesdropping and experience while several originate with news stories and memorable events such as the deaths of Princess Diana, the Queen Mother and Spike Milligan. Included are more personal fun verses written for family birthdays, weddings, and funerals and adapted for this book.
